Bovel's right. Even on Necromancer spell descriptions on moving Undead to and from the physical realm, they send their constructs to the Nether, not to the Realm of Shadows.
Much like Magi and Warlocks, Necromancers draw power from the Nether. They are an Arcanist Path, after all.

Tossing in my thoughts.
I think that Death Knights and necromancers draw from different power sources. It is due to this that they cannot share the same 'spellbooks' as one another. Necromancers are more similar to mages. Whilst Death Knights are more similar to shadow priests, due to their strong connection to the Shadow Realm.
They can mimic one another with some spells. But ultimately the two things are different. And thus some spells a necromancer can use are barred to a Death Knight, and visa versa.
A strong showing of this would be the 'blood' spec a Death Knight can use. While the frost and unholy specs have similarities to spells casted by Nncromancers, the 'blood' spells are pretty much -exclusive- to Death Knights. And this shows that their magic is inherently different than Necromancer magic, because -all- Death Knights can access all the specs (though some are more specialized than others).
Of course, this might all be absolute rubbish. But it's how I view it. It's just that if Death Knights are just plate-wearing Necromancers... well... that stops a necromancer from being so special.

Yes I agree with Xigo here he dose have a valid argument on this and thats also how I see that Deathknights and Necromacers are different, BUT I also think that there different from shadowpreists or else a Death Knight would be a Suped up Shadowpreist in plate with a two handed weapon. I beleive that Deathknights use shadow only to manipulate phisical things, where as a Shadowpreist use's it to manipulate Phisical things aswell as things Via the shadowrealm. But at the same time a deathknight could be a Suped up Shadowpreist in plate with a two handed weapon depending on how you play it or a Shadowpreist being a watered down Deathknight with cloth and staff. It all depends on how you look at it really.

Well, in my opinion, after reading things, I have come up with this conclusion. . .
Necromaner = Arcane
Death knight = Arcane + Shadow
Shadow Priest = Shadow
Makes sense, no? A Death Knight is just a mix between a Necromancer and Shadow Priest and I think Death Gate is more in the realm of the Shadow with a hint of Arcane added to it. Either that or I'm completely wrong.

That seem's about right but I dont think a Deathgate can take you just anywhere...I do beleive that a Deathgate would have to have preexisting pressence somewhere for it to work such as like a frame somewhere for it to be like one in a wall of a house...you would have to think about it make the deathgate(through what ever means nessecarry) and step through it and vwalah you appear there...Or one in Ebon hold or undercity ect. point is it would have to be a major city really. or otherwise you would have to know the location of said place to get through to it.

It seems to me that the whole Shadow Realm thing is linked to necromancy overall though, with the Scourge seemingly making so much use of it.
Also, remember that priests have no real connection with the Light or Shadow, but rely on their own belief for their powers. Kind of finding it within themselves and brings it out through faith. That's how I've understood how it is handled here, anyway.

Ehh. It was just a thought. I do recall several people in chat mentioning something, but they've yet to post and it doesn't really matter if they do. Regardless, death knights don't use arcane, they use death and shadow magic, same as a necromancer (though technically necromancers should have access to arcane as well, Grakor simply wants to prevent multiclassing, which I suppose I understand.)

The shadow magic of warlocks, necromancy, ice magic etc. All are arcane, just different variations, schools, as they call it.

Death Knights do use Arcane Magic. They use Runic Magic which is a form of harnessing the Arcane. This is done through creating symbols which allow the Arcane from the Ley Lines to travel through it naturally and then formed into a shape which would cause a spell to be created. Hence, Rune Magic.

From my understanding, Necromancers use Shadow through Arcane, since they are not faith based.
Not too sure on the whole Death Gate ordeal, it seems plausible since Necromancers themselves have no teleportation spell of the sort, where Mages can poof anywhere and create portals, and warlocks can summon people to them.

Yes, but it isn't true arcane magic. They're not fire off arcane missiles or conjuring food is what I meant. :P

Perhaps Necromancers access the shadow through arcane means.
Shadow Priests access it through faith.
Death Knights access it because it's just simply part of them.
And it is how they access it that sets their abilities apart from one another.
Plausible?

Indeed. I thought it would be pretty neat to do, y'know? Regardless, unless anyone else has something to say, it was just a thought. =)

Personally, I'd think it'd be possible for a Necromancer to use some form of a Death Gate. Since they use the Arcane they would of had some experience with portals so, with a bit of training, it wouldn't be impossible for them to make a new form (Albeit weaker) of portal using the Shadow or whatever they use now.
